A question about : Expensive ginger cake
I have just hurriedly bought an expensive ginger cake as a friend rang to say that she's going to pop in for a cuppa. It's nice BUT too expensive. I have now found this recipe and will try to copy the bought one.
200g/7oz self-raising flour
200g/7oz sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
55g/2oz margarine, plus extra for greasing
1 free-range egg, beaten
2 tbsp golden syrup
240ml/9fl oz hot water
Cook in a round tin.
But I've got two questions: if I make it in a 2 lb loaf tin, how long should I cook it for ? And would it alter that if I add some chopped ginger in syrup and a bit of the syrup ?
I'm so bad at timings for cakes, any wise words would be much appreciated !
