A question about : Employer changed safety shoe supplier which are killing my feet

I wear anti slip safety shoes for work due to the nature of my work.

My old shoes needed replacing as the edges of the soles went smooth. My employer gave me a replacement pair made by a different supplier and they are hurting my feet after 5-6 hours of wearing them. I wear them for 8 hours. I find my feet in much pain still when I go to bed.

If my employer only supplies that pair which are hurting my feet, could I get a pair of safety shoes which are comfortable for me and ask to pay for them?

Not informed my employer yet.

Best answers:

  • What my old employer did for the employees who wanted smarter or more upmarket safety shoes or boots was give them an allowance for the same value as the standard work wear ones and allowed them to buy their own.
  • Just speak to your employer Scarlet - shoes are difficult in terms of uniform.
We used to supply work boots, but found that we'd get people returning them because they didn't fit right. Now we have a maximum spend and people get their own boots. If they went to spend more that's their choice and they pay the extra.
I'd just speak to them, they aren't goint to want you to wear inappropriate footwear surely?
  • I used to order safety shoes for my old employer and we had a few different styles to choose from. We tended to order the same ones but if an employee complained that they didn't fit properly or hurt them, we would try ordering a different style for that person.
Speak to your employer, they may be able to do the same?
  • Sounds like the old shoes became soft and not too well supporting.
Have you tried extra socks / different socks to help your feet.
Like others have said talk to your employer, how is your employer going to know you have a problem if you don't?
What do other employees think of the boots / shoes?
  • I buy my own, i do have a pair of safety boots but like you OP they really hurt my feet after a few hours of wearing them. Plus if i ever decided i want to leave i have to give back the boots, so if i buy my own then atleast i will have safety shoes for other employment if needed.
