A question about : electric toothbrush help

I decided to purchase an electric toothbrush as I read they give a better clean (not sure if this is true but its worth a try)

I am really struggling with using it title=Frown

I find the urge to move it around like a normal brush hard to resist, it is a pain having to turn it off to take it out of my mouth to get water and then turn on again (not I don't kept the tap running before anyone asks). Its also very uncomfortable as I have a small mouth and whilst the head is smaller than a normal toothbrush it is deeper, meaning I can feel it pressing onto my gum when cleaning the back teeth.

I am persevering with it in at night but can't be doing with it in the mornings and revert back to my normal brush title=Embarrassment

It this normal when you first start to use one, how long do they take to get used to? I paid Ј25 which isnt alot but still alot of money if I have to abandon it.

Best answers:

  • You absolutely have to move it around like a normal toothbrush.
The problem with electric tooth brushes is people think they will do all the work for them and don't move them about. You are doing exactly the right thing moving it around like a manual brush.
Ditto the small head means it will get into places a larger brush won't. All toothbrushing should brush the gums as much , if not more, as your teeth. So it is good that you can feel it on your gum.
Whatever toothbrush you use you shouldn't keep rinsing it as you brush. Toothpaste needs to stay on the teeth for the fluoride to act so don't rinse your toothbrush until you have finished cleaning and spit don't rinse to keep the fluoride in your mouth.
  • Thanks moving it around will certainly make it easier/more comfortable. I will try that.
it makes sense what you say about not rinsing, I will also try to keep to that but I don't think that is going to be so easy, I have been doing it for years I will however make sure my son stops rinsing from now on so it gets used to cleaning his teeth that way.
