A question about : Ebay fake policy

Having a bad experience with Ebay. Been sold fake trainers (blatant and the seller admits it after the fact.) Trying to get Ebay to treat the claim as fake and not a straight return has been a nightmare.

Wondered if anyone else had similar issues?

Their policy is clear (search for money back guarantee ebay page) but they dont seem to follow their own rules. I would expect them to take it seriously if suitable evidence is provided (which I did...) The seller is now openly selling fake stuff...

Just looking to see if anyone else has seen the same as I work out how much of a fuss to make about this.

Note, less aid about customer services via phone the better....!

Best answers:

  • I had exactly the same problem with a counterfeit watch I bought from an ebay seller:

I sent e-mail to ebay and spent ages on their livechat, all of it in vain. They just couldn't seem to understand that their policy stated one thing and yet to get a refund, they kept telling me that I had to pay to return the fake back to the seller.
Keep trying Poppie but don't hold your breath waiting for ebay to back you up.
  • Got my money back but gonna keep pushing....
  • What evidence have you provided? Unless it is a letter from an agent of the trademark owner, I do not think Ebay will take much notice. You can't really blame them. Unless the trademark owner contacts them about an unauthroised seller why should they?
Its possible to get cheap genuine stock cheap from sources. Should they listen when a seller who has to pay full wholesale price accuses the other seller of selling fakes? I have been accused twice of selling fakes by a buyer. Ironically both times it was on my personal account and both times for items I had originally brought from Debenhams.
  • If seller admitted that it is fake, it isn't the same what you have experienced mrcol
I'd try to contact brand via Twitter / FB and see what they say too may be ?
  • Thanks for the feedback. To be clear, the post was asking about ebays response rather than the seller.
But to also this wasnt buying 120 quid trainers for 30 then complaining....and wasnt cheap genuine stock (I bought white box goods before and accept the risk when I do...) These were sold as genuine...
There was lots of clear evidence they were fake (provided to ebay) and the seller refused to co-operate, admitted they were fake and then refused a refund. Ebays response was awful and they didnt follow their own policy...my main grumble!
I feel daft for falling for it as I did some checks...but not enough.
To help others avoid this, when I get some time at the weekend I will write a post with suggestions for things to look for to avoid fakes. I thought I was doing enough checks but realise now that a couple of simple extra checks would have helped me avoid this. (Its simple stuff like ensuring there is a picture of the label etc...)
Once I get the refund in the bank I am closing my ebay account. I have lost confidence that they provide a safe buying environment and their customer service is just the worst.
  • Best solution for trainer shopping:
If you want cheap trainers and are happy with good quality replicas, shop on aliexpress - where nobody bothers to pretend they're real.
If you want real ones, buy them in a shop, or from established websites or stores on Amazon.
