A question about : Disc problems.

After 6 years of pain and numerous tests to rule out different things I have now been diagnosed with 8 disc bulges. Is it worth me applying for a disability benefit?

Best answers:

  • pain levels and walking distances are important
  • I have a similar problem
im currently on DLA for severe mental illness I was awarded DLA in early 90s indefinite.
I get high rate of care and lower mobility.
approx. 15 year ago I was given xrays as I was getting bad back pains, the resulds show I have worn discs in lower and middle of my spine.
I was given pain meds to ease the pain.
lately my back has got a lot worse sometimes I collapse in extreme pain and cant get back on my feet without help.when this happens it takes ages to get the pain under control.
I cant walk very far due to the pain and lack of confidence.
I would like to apply for the higher rate of mobility but someone warned me I could end up losing what I already have.
    is this true?
    thks
  • hi
I just received my esa result. I went Straight into support group no face to face.
I just read gov website my postcode area are starting to change dla to pip.
it looks like I qualify for the high rate of mobility as two of the scores combined total 12pts.still nervous to go for it and worried they will ask why I never declared a change in my circumstances(I put on 7 stone since I first claimed dla and cant walk far)
do I fill out pip form describing myself on a bad day or an average day?
  • i personally would stay on DLA rather than volunteer for PIP, but its your choice.
forms should be completed giving details of good and bad days.
not solely good days or solely bad days
