A question about : Digger cat

Some of you may know I have 4 cats.
From those 4 , Macius the wobbly cat is the smallest, really half the size of Teddy which is my biggest cat.
All the cats are good as gold using the litter trays, hardly any litter out but Macius.. all by himself, every single time he goes into a tray, every single time.. sighhhh Notice how big/high my trays are, still.....

  • I have two cats and one of those is a digger, she is small too but every time she goes she digs for ages making a lot more mess than your pic,I had thought of getting bigger trays but by the size of yours it would not solve the problem suppose we will just have to put up with it.
  • Oh this is just one side of the tray - there is similar amount on the other side too.. Macius spreads is like over a meter on 2 sides of the tray
Love this wobbly matchstick legs cat to bits but this drives me insane as other cats and the dog carry it on their paws all over the place...I am not at home 24/7 to sweep the floor each time after him
  • I put mine in a cardboard box with an opening at the front it contains quite a bit. My problem is now my kitten is 9 months she goes out in the garden but comes in to use the litter tray how do you teach them to use the garden?
  • Put only a small layer of litter in?
  • Get a tray with a lid it solves the problem
  • my Barnes likes to pile the litter on any poos or pees - so much so that one end of the litter tray can be completely empty of litter! I call it 'building sandcastles'.
and I am convinced that kittens are taught by their mama to kick a little litter out of the tray to ward off evil spirits!
  • None of my boys wanted to use a hooded tray and even the biggest one would be small for Teddy as he is really tall for a cat.
With 4 cats using 2 trays (they are happy sharing and i have no space in the flat for more trays) they have to be filled in deep.
Just my Macius is such a messy little boy.. sigh.. funny as he is the smallest of all 4.
  • The peril of a box with a lid is it just ends up getting kicked out of the front. My maine coon boy bolts out of the litter box so the litter goes everywhere. The flap has been ripped off so many times that I leave it off now. Then the moggie goes in and kicks loads of litter out!
I'm considering getting a carpet sweeper so I dont have to drag the hoover out every time one of them goes to the tray.
  • Get a little handheld vac for stray litter. Ours has changed our lives. We just take it with us, along with the scoop and nappy sack, when we go on a scooping round.
EDIT: It's a sign from above... The one we got is currently half price on Amazon at Ј25:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vax-H86-GA-B...s=handheld+vac
We paid Ј40 and thought it was worth every penny! Recommended to cat owners everywhere. Handheld vacs don't have amazing suction - I wouldn't do my muddy car footwells with it - but they're perfect for kitty litter.
Although the battery only lasts about 15 mins from a full-charge, we only charge it every 1-2 weeks as it gets used for
  • Cheers, it would work if I was at home (as I am now as out of work) all the time but normally when I do work...
clean both trays, sweep around them before work
come back from work - litter EVERYWHERE (so hand held no use) as Macius dug it out, 4 cats plus dog carried on their paws everywhere, some mixed with water when the dog had a drink and slobbered over it
    sighhhh
  • I suppose it is the price we pay for having pets,I for one would rather have cat litter sprinkled round the house and my cats than an immaculate empty home and am sure you would not be without any of your lot.Hope Zara is well, she is a beautiful GSD.
  • More re the price we pay for having pets heheheheh
By the way, the FREE spot on the bottom right of the bed is only free as George my ginger boy is not there yet...
