A question about : denplan

I believe I was miss sold Denplan by my dentist that was at the time
for my children at the age of 4 and have paid it monthly till last month when I stopped the plan. The kids are now 8 and 11 and I took one of them yesterday to the dentist and there was no charge as its free for under 12s! so I have been paying a monthly fee all this time when its free?! I hjave emailed them and they have provided me with a list of all payments made to them . what should I do next please?

Best answers:

  • Children under 18 are only seen free if they are seen on the NHS by a dentist who has a NHS contract.
Many dentists do not have a NHS contract and therefore either see children as private patients eg on Denplan , or some will , as a goodwill gesture , see children free up to a certain age if parents are private patients of the practice . This means the dentist loses money on seeing children but some practices see this loss as worthwhile.
This policy will vary from practice to practice and from dentist to dentist. Have you changed dentists or practice?
  • no its the same practice x
  • but the dentist has changed as he retired x
  • So the policy over treating children under 12 for free has either come in since he retired, or it was just his policy. Either way if your children saw him, you paid denplan in order for them to see him then what the policy for seeing children now is is immaterial to what happened in the past.
  • ok thank you x
