Yes,that's right,December will soon be here!

I've been racking my brains to come up with a theme,and really was getting a tad stressed out.....what happens in December after all that's of any interest to a bunch of skinflint-aspiring wallet watchers?After a detailed chat with Father Christmas,he put forward an idea so brilliant,that well,for once,I was speechless.That's right, a tropical holiday in a tropical paradise,full of sun,blue skies,sandy beaches,scuba diving,lovely cocktails,getting that tan just right and not getting burnt....that's right,we're going to escape from those ghastly winter blues and anything at all Christmassy.Just think:the sun,the sea,the flying fish.....
The tardis is all set with lots of coconuts,cocktail sticks,loads of pink'n'sparkly bikinis and T-shirts,tanning lotion and some of last year's famed sprouts curry,just in case on-one likes the local delicacies!Igor has also come up with a powerful 'jungle juice' as he calls it,that'll put hairs on your chest!

Of course,the best thing about this tropical jaunt is that it's all free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you who are new to the challenge,we are a happy (and some might say mildly insane) bunch doing battle with those retailers - and there's plenty of temptation out there at the moment. We are seriously committed to saving money, but nobody said it can't be done with a smile on your face - so we organise riotous nights out and gatecrash any function going - all without leaving the comfort of our own imaginations or armchairs!

On a slightly more serious note, we are here to help each other avoid spending for the number of days we feel we can manage to try to take back some control over our hard-earned money. What you class as a spend' is entirely your choice; some people will try to shop on the days DD/SO etc are paid, whilst others will not include essentials such as rent. Have a look for a post from our sponsor (and godmother of this challenge) BigMummaF, this contains some guidelines and ideas for starting you off on the challenge.

It's amazing how inventive you get when you're determined NOT to spend - from weird menu ingredients to surprising DIY solutions - but you know what? 99% of the time those wacky ideas work.

Just remember that mentioning the F word (f-a-i-l!) is not allowed,and anyone who does will have a swift visit from Shawn the Shark!

• Thanks for starting us off again marmite - please count me in. I'm going to start with a target of 10 and 3 in a row please - not expecting a very spendy December as presents are all bought, however I have lots of visiting etc to do over the course of the month so think I'll end up with many low-spend days for incidentals. If I start off low I hopefully won't feel as defeated as I currently do!
• My usual starter of 10 with 4 in a row please Marmite!
• I shall go in for this again. Don't think I'm going to hit November's target of 15 and with the day that shall not be mentioned approaching with me not having done any of the shopping for it, I fear I may have a few spendy days. With this in mind I'm going to start on 10 NSD's for December.
• It would seem the appointments for woteffa will still be coming thick & fast next month, & I've still to squeeze in a hair cut & sight test ..99.99% certain I'll need new spex...

  What an inspired suggestion from our great leader marmite - now can I suggest something? You know how dire punishments are inflicted on those who use the word "fail?" (No, marmite, I am protected by those inverted commas, so put Shawn back in his cage please, before Igor gets out his recipe for shark fin soup). Well,as we are escaping from all the seasonal malarkey and going on our tropical holibobs, let's impose a punishment on all those who say the word "Christmas" on this December thread! That will be a challenge for us, but we could still discuss seasonal matters and find all sorts of inventive ways to do it without that C word. Marmite, could you sort out a prize for the best alternative word used by an NSD gang member? Just to add a bit more fun and lunacy to the challenge.
  I will aim for another 16 this month - I won't have chance to spend if I am lying on a tropical beach having coconut oil rubbed in all over by sun tanned chaps wearing palm leaf loincloths....oh Hubert! This nice young man has some palm leaf salad for you to nibble on.....(Down Nargle! Control yourself!)
