A question about : Credit Cards which offer Air Miles

I have been collecting Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for the last 4 years through staying at Holiday Inn's and the like with work, but as a result of a recent expenses overhaul >title=Frown by my new boss, i'm now in the position of not being able to collect points this way any more.

Therefore, does anybody know any credit cards (or any other means) available to the UK which allow me to collect Qantas Frequent Flyer points?

Best answers:

  • Not 100% sure, but probably none. You'll probably find only British Airways through American Express or Airmiles through NatWest & Some Royal Bank of Scotland Cards are available to collect in the UK. I looked at this before for Continental Airlines & Northwest as they have credit cards in the USA which can accumulate points on but they're not available in the UK.
Try contacting their customer service and ask them they should be able to tell you.
  • When you say unable to collect points do you mean you are no longer getting to stay at these hotels?
You can usually present your cards after bookings have been made or even send receipts to claim mileage. There are lots of Qantas partners for the usual things - car hire, hotels, flying (any Oneworld airline and quite a few others as well) but I don't think there is a UK credit card.
Can Qantas miles be transferred into any other schemes? Do you have enough for a ticket with Qantas, could you just use the miles you have but start collecting in another scheme that will also let you travel with Qantas?
  • Gal,
That's correct - no longer allowed to stay at these hotels. I'm being forced to use budget accomodation :-/ instead! (you know - the ones that don't have any points scheme, but they have a wonderful wacky warehouse or benji's barn next door).
Additionally, I don't think that the points are transferrable to another airline's programme, unlike, say, bmi or ba. As it happens, i've got enough at this point to fund a return to Sydney or Auckland so all's not lost, but I would have preferred to keep on collecting so that the missus can enjoy a free holiday too!
  • You could get free tickets from two different airlines - if you collect points in any of the OneWorld schemes then you can still use them to get Qantas tickets. The only problem is trying to book reward travel through two different systems and still manage to get on the same flight.
  • funny you should post this as i've just been looking at the BMI card. !they offer 9 months 0% on BT's and also airmiles 1.5miles per Ј1 spend on puchases.
Now i've never been involved in airmiles so don't exactly know how this works. !Surely if i spend Ј1000 a month i don't get 1500miles free air travel? or do i?
this would be great as my dads got a place in La Manga and BMI baby do flights from EMA to La Manga. !I dunno how far it is in airmiles though?
    anyone got any direct experiance?
  • With most schemes there is a (big) difference between the miles earned and miles needed for reward travel.
For example I think I paid 20,000 miles for my last trip from Glasgow to Amsterdam.
You need to look at BMI's web site for details of their scheme, I don't even know if you can use reward tickets for BMI Baby flights.
  • thank for that looking at the site you can use them with BMI baby and for a european flight spain for example is 20000 miles for a return ticket.
so thats Ј15 spend for an 2xЈ80 (average) (and i bet you still have to pay the suppliments) so works out at just over 1% cashback... think i'll stick with my circle card at least i can spend the cash on whatever i want.
  • hello,
about the Qantas Airways Frequent Flyer.
get an amex card and collect the membership rewards points. if u enrol on the classic scheme its Ј1 per 1 point.
transfer the points to starwood hotel scheme ( 2 amex points for 1 starwood)
then from starwood transfer to Qantas Airways Frequent Flyer ( 1 starwood = 1 qantas). Good thing about starwood is that if u transfer 20000 they throw in an extra 5000 free.
    hope this helps
  • If you are applying to Amex anyway you could always ask if they could let you join their Austalian reward scheme which earns Qantas miles directly. The worst they can do is say no.
  • Excellent ideas.
    Thanks very much guys.
