A question about : Credit Card Reclaiming Discussion

Please read Martin's article linked above for new credit card specific template letters and POC. When I get a minute I'll put some links into this post regarding threads on credit cards but meantime you'll find most of the information you need in the Reclaim Help Thread which is linked in my signature.

  • I've been offered Ј42.00 settlement from Capital One (total owed was Ј136.08) and Ј69.12 from Royal Bank of Scotland (total owed was Ј144.00) - should I just accept the offers in light of the recent situation???
  • You need to read Martin's article, link in the top post, and have a read of the Capital One thread for other people's experiences in dealing with them.

  • Can I put in a claim for credit card charges if my credit card has since been cancelled with the bank? I remain with the same bank, but the credit card balance was incorporated into a loan I also have with them. I would be grateful for advice. The card has not been in use over this year. Thanks!
  • Need adviceI have had a few credit cards in the past which are now closed accounts. I live at a different address from where they were registered. Can i still claim refunds for charges on those cards ?Thankyou to anyone that can help!!

  • Hi all,
i'm a newbie and this is my first post. I've been reading alot about reclaiming charges on my credit cards. I have credit cards from the past that have been closed for quite some time now and i am sure i was occassionally charged for late payments etc and don't know whether it is worth enquiring with them. What do you think? Is it just as easy to call them and ask for the past 6 years claims or does it have to be in a letter?
    Thanks in advance x
  • Hi all just a quick question, I had a few credit cards a year or two ago, I am thinking of claiming back all the unfair charges they used to steep onto me!! As the accounts are now closed, how would I go about getting my information? I doubt, unless I am wrong they would give it to me over the phone? Is there some particular department I need to write too? And anything specific I need to say in my letter?
Also finally my friend had some large credit cards debts, but I think his debts were Ј3000, so he offered the bank something like 1,800 and they accepted then he closed the acounts, could he still claim his unfair charges from these accounts?
    Thanks
    Emma
aka The Duck!! Sometimes Im quackers! But being a duck I always end up with the bill!!
  • If you have closed your account with them then do not fear. It makes no difference. I recently claimed back charges from Capital One, Natwest Mastercard and others for unfair charges. Be prepared for a fight from Natwest, but follow the guidelines set out in the article and you will be right as rain. They will roll over eventually. Is just a matter of time, seriously.
  • I closed a Lloyds TSB card two years ago, but I have keep all my statements.
I checked back through the four years before that and found that I had been charged late payment fees of Ј20 on 12 occasions. Ammending a template from the bank charges part of this website, I complained and asked for "all charges" to be refunded.
I got the standard 'get lost' reply.
Wrote again, saying I intended to go to court to recover Ј240 plus Ј62 interest, and almost immediately they replied, offering Ј80 plus Ј19.87 interest (8%) plus another 14 days interest at 5.75% (so I don't lose any interest while considering their offer!) ammounting to Ј100.05.
Two letters and about twenty minutes - Ј100!
Letterly, they were very civilised and reasonable - it's just such a pity they have to try to be intimidating bullies with the first reply.
  • well...I had a citi card account that I closed back in june of this year, I had no account numbers nothing...so I phoned them and gave them details of my name address and account closure date. I said I mislaid my statements and was wanting to query payment to a company which I was sure I used my card to pay and that this company denied receiving the payment...hey presto statements in the post ...no charge...and within 7 days. so give it a go.
  • I have a claim on going with Citi cards which was at the stage of a directions hearing. This was then stayed by the courts when the OFT announced the investigation. I put in an N244 application to have the stay removed and this was also refused by the court.
Have you any advice at what to do now??
  • I was wondering I am trying to claim money back from credit cards I closed last year, I have no statements or account numbers left, I have rang a couple of cards and they asked me to write to customer services for my old account number, could i just send them the first template, to re-cliam charges and leave blank my account number and just write that I was a former account holder?? Or do i need my account numbers to proceed
Also I am still not sure, not to sure if somebody knows. My friend had a few credit cards and he had large debts, he settled accounts for less than what was owed, something like Ј3000 outstanding and he paid them Ј1800, could he still reclaim unfiar charges from such accounts?
    Thanks
  • Is is just charges for credit cards or can you claim back charges from store cards i.e. argos?
  • If you are claiming on a closed account and don't remember the account number you need to send the bank any relevant addresses, name and current address and your date of birth and they should be able to trace your account.
As regards accounts that may have been partially settled then yes you can claim the charges but any monies refunded will be put towards any debt held by the bank and the account will be re-opened for this to happen.
