  • Hi Sarah,
With all merchant accounts there are charges involved which usually involve:
    a) credit card machine fee (between Ј12 and Ј35 depending on how you'll be using it)
    b) minimum monthly charge (usually around Ј20)
    c) a rate for debit card transactions
    d) a rate for credit card transactions
The last two rates depend on:
    a) if you're business is new to cards
    b) your actual or projected annual turnover
    c) the amount of that turnover on credit and debit cards
Merchant providers will also assess whether your business is low or high risk. If most of your transactions are face-to-face it's usually low risk.
But if most of your transactions are over the phone payments or orders for goods/services delivered at a later date you move into the high risk category for which they'll charge you higher credit and debit card rates.
  • It will give a professional base to your business and square and Paypal are coming with their own card readers and if you are looking for low budget then you can search for them on-line with phrases like cell phone credit card processing, credit card payment processing
  • Square are US only! iZettle is UK Beta testing & works well but doesn't currently accept Visa (who are bringing out their own version this year too..)

  • Hi Sarah,
Depending on what your business is, you might find some software packages which would incorporate your business transactions and allow you to apply payments.
I only know of this in the hotel industry so it may not exist in other areas but may be worth looking into.
I know that using the software option of our hotel booking software ended up cheaper than using a Streamline machine.
