A question about : Cracked fire brick
Hi all
The brick at the back of my woodburner has a crack right down the middle. I'm told it won't make any difference but should I seal it with fire cement?
Best answers:
- That's the best thing to do.
- Won't make any difference. Unless theres as gap.
If you want to bond the two pieces together with fire cement, make a thin paste with water, and prep the joint with it, as per potters do, as it is clay, before using the cement from the tub. - Our back brick has been cracked for 4 years, I have a full set of new bricks but every year my chimney sweep says there's no need to change them as there's plenty of thickness left and the crack in the back one makes no difference but that I should keep my eye on it for getting any worse and change it if it does. So, if it's simply a crack, my advice would be leave it alone.
