A question about : Contribution esa and PIP enhanced both rates

I have heard today that I've been awarded PIP enhanced on both daily and Mobility, I also get contribution based ESA Support group)after reading the passported benefits,I still cannot understand if I can claim the enhanced disability premium or Is this the little extra they add on to yur ESA payment making it up to Ј108 +.i really cannot understand it! I have phoned ESA today and I did not get to giving my details just the part where did I have to inform them that I am now getting PIP, they said they do not need telling they will be informed by the PIP team.
So what are the extra premiums I can claim, will not be claiming carers allowance as my husband gets, his wages from work which is more than the Ј200 threshold.
Although he does care for me all the other times he,s at home

Best answers:

  • the premiums are added to income related ESA, but you may be entitled to an income based top up, depending on your circumstances.
    do you have a partner?
if so, does that partner work?
if no partner, do you live alone?
  • Yes my partner does work, and brings home a wage,my daughter comes and helps me when my hubby at work.
  • The premium is added to income based ESA if your husband is working full-time it is more likely you are on contribution based ESA not income because his income will be too high. Have a look to see which one you are on if it is contribution based you won't get anything
  • OP already said they're on ESA Cont.
  • Thank you very much for your replies, have had a look on some of the sites on some it does say that I may be entitled to a disability premium if I did not apply for carers allowance, but I just cannot understand how they word these things, all rather difficult, so I think I will ring a helpline this week and see if they sort of explain in English, I am In Esa support group contributions based,.thank you
  • Hi Trish you're getting a bit confused with allowances.
It's the not support group bit that matters it's the fact you are on contributions based not income based i.e you only get it because you contributed not because there's no other income in the house that matter in relation to the disability premium so you are not eligible.
The other premium you are talking about by not claiming carers allowance is severe disability premium which is applicable if you live alone. As you have a working husband this is not applicable to you either.
    Sorry
  • Thank you for explaining all this , I see it now you have explained all.
    Thank you so much x
