A question about : Company offering to get council tax refund

I had a call from a company called Hamnett Marketing informing me that I could be in the wrong council tax band and I could be owed ЈЈ.
I checked with my neighbours and found out that my house is on a different band. How does this work, why am I paying more than others on my street?

  They are responsible for banding dwellings for Council Tax.
• I had a call from them, I was in Band C instead of B, Hamnett Marketing have managed to lower my tax band and reclaim the Ј3400 overpayments I had made over the years.
  Its all to do with when government set the council tax bands back in the 90s, they messed up big time, there are millions of homes that are paying the wrong tax. Thanx to Hamnett Marketing otherwise I would never have known

• But once the company pointed it out to you, you could have just as easily done the job yourself with
  a couple of phonecalls, and you would have not have had to pay them a penny.
• We had a similar experience when my husband applied to the VOA. I believe that the VOA tell everyone that they can make a claim themselves but look for every reason to knock you back.
  My neighbour told us about the company called Hamnett Marketing who kindly assisted us to make a strong claim.

  I know some of you said that I can try myself, but really I don't have the time. Im working every day and when I'm off I would rather spend the time with my lads than trying to reclaim a few grand.
