Cleaning Glass on a wood burning stove

A question about : Cleaning Glass on a wood burning stove

Any Tips on quick cleaning. Is there any houshold cleaners that are suitable? Or do you have to send for the special cleaner?

• Have been working useing the airwash on the stove although it still hazes a little no black stains. I elt it cool then washed with soapy water last night and it just wiped off

  I usually wipe the majority off with some newspaper and use a wet sponge pan cleaner for the tough bits.
• Don't be so fussy, it just blacks up again
  Although the MIL does waste her time cleaning it when she visits
• Try Hob-brite, as for ceramic hobs. Works really well. If you do it regularly and don't let black soot and tar build up, your stove front will always look like new!
• Thanks newbird, just used 'hobrite' on our stove glass and it has come up an absolute treat. Wish we hadn't wasted Ј7.50 on Hotspot glass cleaner before I had read t:confused: his.!!
• Warm wet newspaper dipped in ash works for me.
• don't waste your hard earned on products, just wait till the glass is cold, put some newspaper covering on hearth and then crumple up old newspaper sheets dip in the ash in the stove and rub away on the class.Keep renewing the paper and ash every few wipes, finish off when all soot is off with dry crumpled newspaper to give clear sparkling glass. The glass will look great, put all the old paper in the fire, and just watch where you put your hands! coz you is gonna look like da Black and White Minstrels!!
• I scrape it off with a stanley knife blade then polish with window/glass cleaner.....
• my glass cleans dead easily with damp kitchen roll.
• if your just burning logs normally wipe with wet rag is fine
• I have never cleaned mine, it looks okay to me, actually it seems to clean itself...
• lemon juice and ash with newspaper
• Vinegar and ash seemed to be working for me, but as the stains were well established was hard work. I took the front off, laid it down and covered it for 15-30 minutes with a piece of kitchen towel roll soaked in vinegar. The stain was then much easier to remove by scraping with a blade and cleaning with ash and paper.
• Do it the night you have chips
• When the stove is cold, use vinegar with wire wool to help remove the stubborn tar stains from the glass, and then remove the residue with paper towel. We did this carefully so that it didn't scratch the glass surface, and were really impressed with the results.
  Afterwards, when using the stove, keep the vents open to slow-down the build-up.
• I use Mr Muscle oven cleaner.
  Spray it on the glass,leave for 30 mins and the build up on the glass just wipes off,leaving it clean and sparkling.
  That way there is no hard work involved
