A question about : Child Maintenance
Just a quickie.
My husband has 2 sons from his previous marriage. One is 19 and at university (just starting his second year), the other 17 and just starting an apprenticeship after dropping out of college after less than a year. Does he still have to pay maintenance to their Mum?
Please note - he's not trying to stop contributing/helping the boys out, rather to give money directly to the boys.
Thanks in advance.
Best answers:
- It looks like it can stop for both... see here

19 Year Old... past A level stage
17 Year Old - Not in full time education - https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-16-19. Some apprenticeship may be classed as education I thinnk. Is it a full time apprenticeship.
Either way, I would have a word with the kids, they would probably appreciate some help direct to them, cutting out mum. My DD would like payments direct to her but dad prefers to go through mefor some reason . - We've just been informed he's actually gone back to (a different) college. Hey ho. Here's to another 2 years wasted time.
Thanks anyway folks. - I would still about passing money to the 19 year old direct.
