A question about : Cheap cafe list

I travel around Blighty town centres and I would like to know where I can get a coffee for about Ј1. I'm talking sit-down not take-away only.

For example, Tropical Twister in Luton Market do a mug (or can) for 50p! (last time I went).

Please highlight the town, preferably link to location.

Thanks.

Best answers:

  • are there any specific towns or areas you travel to?
  • Good idea! I'd be interested in this too, along with info about any parking nearby please.
  • Filter Coffee..99p at Pret a Manger. It's a chain so I'd expect the same price and quality all over.
  • Wetherspoons filter coffee at Ј1.29 includes free refills until 2pm.
  • Bristol: St Nick's market, the one in the corner of the indoor market rather than the posher 'foodie' bits in the arcades.
    Further out, Rajani's ...
  • The free drinks for Waitrose clubcard holders has caused a hoo-ha in Nailsea (near Bristol) as local cafes are losing so much business. (I can't link to web pages but a search will bring them to you)
I'm not too upset as they were probably over-charging. Hopefully competition will bring down the cost to where it should be, about Ј1.20 for a large, not this Ј2.40 nonsense. Cafes can do what they should do and make speciality cakes and foods.
My nearest (Berkhamsted) had run our of temporary cards and the cafe was packed ... it could be a victim of it's own success. The cafe has the ambiance of a school canteen, it seems the less well-heeled people of Berko would rather have that if they can save a couple of quid.
  • Subway do coffees for Ј1 (and you can also get Sub Card points), and went past a KFC in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey with a board outside advertising freshly ground coffee for 49p before 12pm. However this branch of KFC is takeaway only.
