A question about : cancelled train

Last night my train was cancelled and I had to wait for the next one. What can I claim?

The ticket inspector gave me a replacement ticket but said I can go online to get some sort of refund.

I bought my ticket on the trainline website a few days before and chose my train (Leeds - Scarborough) My train was due to leave at 1812 last night. There was an announcement made that my train was delayed or cancelled and I got on the next one at 1940 I arrived in Scarborough at 9pm however the last bus to my town had gone at around 2015 so I had to call my husband to travel 20 miles to pick me up.

Im not sure the trian company but could well be Northern rail.

What do I do? Im not sure where to procede as the ticket inspector did not give any definate details, he just told me to go online and make a claim for the delay.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • The 1812 service train is run by TransPennine Express, not Northern Rail, so that's who you need to claim from.
Here is the form you need to claim compensation:
    https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/mediafile...ationclaim.pdf
According to what you've said, you should expect the full cost of the journey to be refunded in rail vouchers.
  • Though you won't get thetrainline's additional fees refunded as their fees are charged for using their 'premium' service which they provided you with.
Next time you can get the entire cost of the transaction refunded, by using the TransPennine website directly (or indeed any Train Company website, or Trainsplit.com - which only charges fees if it identifies a saving
There is no reason to use thetrainline.com over any other website, as their service is in no way better than going directly to the train companies.
