A question about : can bank charge me to detail history of unfair charges?

My husband called his bank and asked them to send him a statement of all the charges he has paid since opening the account. They have said that, as he should have kept records himself, it will cost him Ј10 to get a statement. Is this right? Or is he entitled to this information (seeing as though it is about him) free of charge?

Best answers:

  • Sorry ,it is in is term's and conditions, the cost for a statement. They have supplied these details once ,therefore they have fulfilled their part. Also I feel that they realize why you might want them
  • He needs to write to them requesting the information, under the Data Protection Act, which will cost a maximum of £10 for ALL OF IT. They have 40 days to provide this information. PM me and i will send you a copy of the letter to send them.
  • Have a read of Martin's article regarding claiming back your bank charges and its worth signing up to CAG for help regarding individual banks.
  • My partner got charged £20 for this, and we are still waiting for it too arrive.
