A question about : Campaign of the week: Make St Edmund England's patron Saint.

For those not in the know, St Edmund was a former English King and was the original Patron Saint of our glorious Country.

St Edmund needs to be placed back in his rightful position in place of the foriegn St George who never even visited this country.

  • Why?

  • So basically you want us to choose between a Palestinian who didnt really slay a dragon and an East Anglian who got beaten by the Danes and then betrayed by his own people while he hid under a bridge? I think I choose the East Anglian who survived being made to look like a porcupine by the arrows of his torturers and then having had his head cut off managed to grow it back on again. On the other hand, even Fabio Capello managed to beat the Danes
  • It would appear to be a campaign funded by a national brewer based in Bury St Edmunds.
There's too much of their beer around already for my liking, I don't intend to give them any more encouragement.
  • I would absolutely vote for Edmund to be the patron saint of England. His sarcastic, witty quips have amused generations, and his sneaky underhand ways are the perfect representation of what has made Britain (and England) Great over the centuries.
Or maybe we could ask Scotland if they mind sharing, I've always liked St Andrew. He gets fireworks on his day!
  • I suspect that's a different Edmund you're thinking of.
He never got to be a saint, so can't be elected....
  • Deal or no deal is ok but think making someone a saint on the back of it a touch ott.
  • His name wasn't even Edmund....
