A question about : Broken laptop
My partner is doing a PGCE at a secondary school. While he was teaching, a technician who works there knocked over his brand new Macbook Pro and cracked the screen. The salary for a PGCE isn’t exactly large, and surely the school should have an insurance policy in place for events such as this?
Who pays for the repairs?
Best answers:
- Technician or school. Not your partner's fault, so he shouldn't pay.
- Claim against the schools insurance.
- Was/is in his contract to supply his own IT kit? Was it not insured?
- It is his laptop so your partner should have it insured for business use if that is what it was being used for.
If he was contracted to supply his own laptop then the school's insurance may cover it. Equally if the damage was due to the technician's negligence or the school's negligence then your partner could make a claim against either of them
