A question about : Boiler and heating replacement

Hello all, looking at nearly Ј6k for a new boiler and complete replacement of heating including four radiators in a two bed purpose built flat. The engineer gets very good ratings on Checkatrade.com and we'd get an eight year warranty with the boiler. Feels like a lot but then the whole theing is being replaced, including pipes.

Thanks in advance.

Best answers:

  • Sounds very expensive to me.
  • Where are you? I had everything replaced except for the boiler and thermostat in the summer, two bedroom flat, four rads and a towel rail, cost me (I think) Ј1,400 plus VAT for the labour and all parts/pipes except the rads which I bought myself. This is in central London.
They did not do a bells-and-whistles job though e.g. the old microbore pipes were boxed in but the new ones are not.
Sorry no idea how much it would have cost to have swapped the boiler out as well - wish I had got quotes for it now, as it's playing up.
  • Without knowing exactly what there doing and installation, materials e.g. concrete floor walls ceiling etc hard to say but sounds like rip off unfortunately checkatrade etc not the best of places you’ll be surprised how few of certain trades even use them get five ten 20 quotes wouldn’t have thought you need more than 3k to 3.5k all in though
depends on if its copper , plastic , and choice of rads etc
    As an example

  • That sounds quite expensive..
We had a quote for Ј4k which included:
    - Fitting of a new boiler in a different part of the house
    - Rewire of electrics to go with it
    - Fitting of a Nest thermostat
    - Conversation from open-vented to a pressurised (megaflo) style system
In the end we just got a new boiler, nest and pressurised heating system for Ј2k
  • I'll do it for Ј5995 without even looking at it first
