A question about : Bizarre results in the FA cup

So Chelsea got thrashed at home by Bradford City who are two leagues below them. Bradford City became the first team to ever put four goals past them in a home game despite being 49 places below Chelsea in England's football pyramid. Man City got beat as well, 0-2 also at home by Championship side Middlesbrough.

It almost seems the lower you are down in the league(s) the better you are likely to do. What's happening are they not treating the FA cup seriously and playing their second reserves, or are the betting syndicates having a laugh?

Premier League position, Team, FA cup result
1 Chelsea OUT
2 Man City OUT
3 Southampton OUT
4 Man Utd REPLAY

Best answers:

  • Wished I had a tenner double on a Bradford and Boro win
Especially in play when chelsea were 2 nil up
Looks like Arsenal for the cup then
  • Liverpool held to a draw at home to Bolton too.
  • Overpaid, overhyped.
I enjoy watching Final Score on text, and making words out of all the anagrams as they score.
  • Half the Premiership teams out.
Can see Bradford City doing a Chesterfield in 96/97 season. Reach the semis
May place a cheeky few quid bet
  • I wouldn't be surprised if the final is a Premiership team vs a lower league team. Certainly enjoyed today!
  • When I saw there were 7 extra minutes at Stamford Bridge I thought "...'ere we go, Chelski'll jam it".
  • Match fixing, maybe?
  • Funniest thing about it was that no one was interesting in televising the two home bankers and let them go ahead as 3pm Saturday kick offs : Chelsea v Bradford and City v Middlesborough
  • I've just had Ј20 at 5/2 (Paddy Power) on the Hammers winning this in the last 20 minutes. I can't see a draw.
    Come on the Hammers!
  • i was lucky enough to be at the match at man city. heres a photo taken when the second goal was scored.
  • Just had Ј20 at 3/1 Liverpool.
I was waiting for Bolton to score first.
    Bolton down to 10 men.
    20 minutes left.
I won't be upset if Bolton hold on.
  • Clubs get used to playing their oppos in the same league.
The style of play in each league is different.
The lower leagues are usually more dogged and determined - the upper leagues are the prima-donnas who prance around looking for the cameras and constantly check their hair isn't out of place.
The premier league players are frightened of getting injured so they'll shy away from the more aggressive tackles that are the bread and butter of leagues 1 and 2!
A lot of PL action looks stage-managed. Some of the chains of events just don't make sense - players "luckily" out of position at just the right time when another player makes a "once in a lifetime mistake". Don't know if it's for match fixing or for making the footie more exciting for the Sky viewers, but often you just know that the action on the pitch isn't natural - say when so many players are in the wrong place - 1 or 2 out of position is normal, but half a team in unfathomable places must raise suspicions.
Don't make the mistake of thinking the PL is where all the best players end up. It's not. It's where the "celeb" players end up. There are a great many players in the lower leagues who are technically better but whose "face doesn't fit" so they never get to the top.
I have far more enjoyment out of watching L1 and L2 games which are genuine football matches, untarnished by celeb culture. Recently, I watched a conference match, which again was far more enjoyable. I find it ever harder to maintain any interest in PL players or games.
  • I was waiting for the Preston to score first.
Had Ј20 on Man U @ 3/1 with Paddy Power.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Man U don't score. lol
  • Can anyone find out if there have been other players other than Jon Stead of Bradford City that have scored in the first five rounds of the FA Cup proper?
  • I heard a rumour that Rooney will be joining the 2016 Olympics diving team!
