A question about : A bit confused

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help explain something. My daughter was told by someone from a welfare rights group that under the DLA system she'd qualify for lower/middle rate, but because it's now PIP she'd get nothing so he said it wasn't even worth the effort to try.

I just can't understand why under one system she'd get help and under the other it's just tough luck.

Best answers:

  • Lower rate care on DLA is effectively being cut out of the PIP levels for care. So if she got middle rate care on DLA it would be lower rate on PIP. But lower rate care on DLA vanishes under PIP.
  • This does not mean that everyone who gets only a LRC award under DLA will get nothing under PIP.
Some advice not to claim can be unhelpful and inaccurate, though well intentioned.

    May be worth a look.
It is vital to understand that under PIP - if you cannot do something as often as reasonably required, reliably, safely, and in no more than twice the time of a normal person - you can't do it for the purposes with PIP.
Even if you can in fact struggle with it and complete the task.
  • Thanks for the link. I was told that what this person knew everything about PIP and he's saying not to bother. Looking at the link she can look after herself but we've had a fair bit of extra expense, this doesn't seem to be catered for.
It's a bit of a minefield out there to be honest.
