Back to the original post...

I have been ringing around this afternoon and the best price I can get is Ј262.00 all inc for 500 litres!!!!!! I am in the Norfolk/Suffolk area - has anyone else got better prices recently? Would appreciate a list of Companies if you have. Thankyou.

  • Price guide here https://www.boilerjuice.com/priceHistory.php
In Lincolnshire can usually get near the 'min' price by shopping around.
Suppliers will haggle but 500 litres is a small order - might be an idea to see what 'boilerjuice' can do on a 'buying weekend' (bulking up orders). We have never used this because normally we get 600 gallons at a time .
  • hey all, glad I found you guys
I too picked myself off the floor after I got a quote for 2000 litres at 41.7p a litre, im sure we paid 36p per litre this time last year for the Supreme Oil from Total Butler(supposedly 6-10% more efficient, cant say we've noticed')
I am in yorkshire and shopping round, will let you know what i end up buying.
Also i have heard that you can use a special type of biodiesel instead of standard heating oil. Has anyone used this and will it give the boiler a cholesterol problem ...will my house smell of chips...well, more than usual??
Replies on best oil prices would be greatly appreciated.

  • I live in yorkshire too (as the name might suggest) I used to ring around Rix, CPL,Tates and then compare to boilerjuice, and you'd usually find a fair price after going back and forward...
who are you using at the moment?
I've bought my last two orders from www.heatingoil.co.uk - been well below the prices im getting from the companies who i speak to on the phone...
    HG3 1 - where I live, prices for 1000l with a 5 day delivery - on heatingoil = 41.75 , boilerjuice = 45.25, rix = 46...
    guess where my money went...
    hope that helps.

  • I live in South Yorkshire. I think this is a great idea, that is getting to know what prices are I'm fed up with having to negotiate all of the time, but of coarse you have to to get the the best price. Putting our experiences here may help.
About 30 years ago when we built our house, we had electric heating installed in the ceilings. This worked very well and gave a well balanced heat in each room. We have since stopped using it. as oil was and I repeat was , a lot cheaper, but is it now? and are considering using it again. Does anyone know how to compare like for like with electric heating, the maths seems a little dunting for me.
  • I've just paid £475 for 900lts!! I hope the weather warms up soon so I don't have to use too much of it.
  • I had a combined system put in (but the wiring still has not been sorted out completely). This is where in theory the central heating and hot water can be heated by either the log burner, the oil boiler or both. Sadly the wiring is wrong so the logs do not heat the hot water...yet!
However as the for the oil, it is great for first thing in the morning on when not well enough e.g to sort out logs etc. When it is time to top up/fill up the tank, I phone around a number of local suppliers and in fact a small local company is cheaper than bigger ones further away. It is worth phoning around and watching the markets. For instance boiler juice last Easter was quoting 42p/l, and I got some from a local supplier for just under 38p/litre.
In summary my advise is, if you live in an area where you can burn logs, do! They are a sustainable/renewable resource. I often get deadwood which is being cleared or windfall after a storm and have a brilliant regular log man who sells me trailer loads at a time for a good rate. Keep oil as a back up for whatever reason, but DO phone around at each fill up time and remember larger loads often achieve a discount.
    Keep researching the price.
    cheers
  • How the prices have risen in a short space of time - when we moved into our house 18 months ago, a litre of oil was 34p a litre (+VAT), I got a fill this week and it's cost me 61.8p a litre - not quite doubled, but not far off it. The delivery was 860 litres
We're being much more conservative with when and how often we use the heating and relying on an electric heater to keep the living room warm this winter, along with more layers and thick jumpers
  • Not quite sure what to do, the oil price is dropping I've just been quoted 44.7p whereas in the Summer it was nearly 60p and only last week it was nearly 50p. Is it worth hanging on?
  • Depends, how much is in your tank and how long do they take to deliver?
I've just cancelled a Total order placed last Tuesday that still hadn't been delivered and re-ordered with a local firm Kinch, being delivered tomorrow. Yay! I saved on price compared with last week and we'll actually have some oil rather than promises!
  • I'm glad I waited now the prices is really dropping now, just been quoted 40p. that makes quite a difference on a 2000 ltr tank
  • hi tabbytote what company did you get your quote from lowest i gain get is 44.6
  • Just got a quote online from heatingoil for 1000L for just short of 43p (ex Vat) next week delivery.
Don't know if I can do better because few sites respond on line or display prices.
  • Just ordered 1500 ltrs for 38.5p + vat . (Ј 606.38)
North Glos. Seemed like an OK price.
( oh, and paid by credit card .)
