A question about : best make/brand name for photvoltaic and inverter?

What is stopping us from fitting our own solar panels? What is the best make/brand name for photvoltaic and inverter? I will apply for the Feed in Tariff myself.

How/where do you buy them?

• I'm with Eric, buy and install yourself(at a higher cost) but you can kiss goodbye to the FiT unless you are MCS approved(are you?)

• If you have mains electricity then Solar PV simply isn't financially justifiable without the FIT.
  Without being installed by an MCS installer, you cannot claim FIT.
• As people says you have to be mcs accredited to qualify for the fit scheme and 5% vat. It may be harder to get someone to buy your surplus electricity as well. Not to mention the electricity company may not want amateurs near their grid.
  As with any electrical and building work you risk electrocuting yourself and others or creating something that is otherwise unsafe.
  However if someone wanted to there are a few other ways to approach it,
  If you install more than 50kw of panels its assumed you are big enough to look after yourself and you don't have to be mcs to qualify for the fit scheme.
  Even if you don't go for FITs you can still sign up for the alternative ROCS subsidy scheme which predated the FIT scheme. Its not for as much but does give about Ј40 per 1000kw hours I think. The paperwork is rumored to be a nightmare though that may have improved now. You would probably have to pay tax but for some business's and particularly huge installations its more appropriate.
  And of course you don't have to be connected to the grid or get any subsidy at all if. At best solar can be installed for under Ј1000 a kw now and generates over Ј100 of retail electricity a year so it is nearly worth it. However that electricity comes all at once in the middle of summer days when you probably don't need and and very little on cold winter nights when you do... But if for some reason you use lots of electricity on sunny summer days (air conditioning?) then you can almost justify cheap solar on its own.
  More practically stick with the official stuff if you are doing it for financial reasons. But if you wish to have a play lots of people have cheap second hand panels off ebay stuck on their garden shed to play with in a small way and its quite affordable these days.
