A question about : Bargain Asia Flights

Air Asia have some amazing deals at present if you hit the right dates.
No admin fee and free seat just pay the taxes. Used them many times, the 'Ryanair type' airline of Asia. Also longhaul with Air Asia X (Inc from Stanstead)

Also see the latest deals from Tiger Airways in Asia/Australia. www.tigerairways.com
another airline I've used many times.

Best answers:

  • Thanks! How do they work?
do they make periodical promotions (like Ryanair) or is more like easyjet?
I need to fly at christmas time and return 3 or 4 weeks later.
    thanks
  • sshhhhhhhhh I haven't booked mine yet!!
  • Think a cross between Ryanair and Easyjet. We got flights from Bangalore to Singapore (4 hours) for about Ј5 all in with Tiger and on to Macau for about Ј2.50 all in, but these were exceptional and only available for a few hours. We also got Perth from KL return for about Ј130 and KL to Bali return for around Ј16 - all prices include all taxes and extras. Keep looking is the best tip. If you register with them for special offers you usually get 24 hours advance warning with Air Asia, Tiger's alerts don't always seem to be so early.
    PS. Sorry DaMaNia82 - we've got ours!!!
  • I can really recommend Air Asia. I have flown with them several times in SE Asia and they are just what a budget airline should be - cheap, cheerful and simple. And everything Ryanair isn't these days. Even when they don't do promotions, their prices are still excellent value.
Not sure I would fancy their non-stop service from STN to KUL though.
  • We've used Air Asia X from KL to Goldcoast 8 hours each way and it was excellent, not cramped, the food was good (you pay for it but not much if booked ahead). Well impressed.
  • Thanks guys. It looks like I have to book 2 differents flights, from London to KL and then to Oz.
Is baggage transferred authomaticly and is there any garantee/assistance in case first flight is in late for example?
  • Not checked through, these are individual flights. If it is a chunky gap between them try the Tune hotel next to the KL low cost terminal.
The 'Ryanair' of hotels. We got a room for Ј1.

  • Yes but don't forget if your arriving by Air Asia or Air Asia X you'll be going into the low cost terminal. Been there many times but what we're doing this time to add in a 24hour stopover between low-cost flights is booking 2 nights in the Tune hotel at the airport for about Ј2 all in (got it when they had a deal on) then leaving or stuff there and going into town for the day on the bus. Back out to the airport to stay the night, on the spot for the next flight then. At that price we booked 2 nights to avoid the 10am check-out as our flight's in the afternoon.
  • Everything looks good!and cheap! too cheap maybe? I see that on time performance is 85%. So Should planes be on time? How much should I allow between two connecting flight in your opinion? (the option tiger asia is good as well!)
How is it Kuala Lumpur? Worth it a 1day visit?
  • Leave a minimum of two hours. Three for International flights. Yes KL is worth a look. Why not?
  • Yes, you have to pass through immigration, collect your bags, go through customs, walk around to check-in and check-in for your next flight.
I've been delayed 3hours with AirAsia before, but I've also departed/arrived 25minutes early - usually the morning flights run on-time and throughout the day there's a knock-on effect making the evening flights run late.
They're a point-to-point airline so if you miss your flight you'll have to hope they take sympathy and re-book you for free (providing there are available seats).
I recently booked a STN->KUL return (inc bags and seats) for Ј214 and a KUL->CMB (Sri Lanka) return for Ј40 but have decided to spend 2 nights in KUL primarily in case the STN->KUL is delayed.
  • BTW, does anyone know what exit seat 31A/K is like?
It's only Ј5 and not the usual Ј20, I assume it's got the part of the exit protruding in some way but I decided to book it as it must be better than a "standard" seat.
BTW, on Air-Asia flights (not Air-Asia X) "premium" seats are only Ј5, I bagged 1A both ways for my 3hour+ flight to Sri Lanka - bargain!

that is true! do you mean leaving (from UK) or landing in KL in the morning?
  • To check what seats are like on many airlines (not all) try www.seatguru.com
Don't think this flight is covered though.
  • All booked now Ј198 return, an absolute steal.
