A question about : Barclays Mess up

Hi looking for a little advice

I applied for mortgage in November of last year with the woolich and everything appeared to go ok and was awaiting a reply. During this time I recoeved a new bank card from barclays, I uadnt requested one so I rang to find out however was told I had failed dpa, after several frustrating phone calls I visited the branch and it turned out that they had actualy managed to loose my account and in the mean time transfer all my fathers accounts (same name, different dob) into my name removing my mother from the joint account and leaving them all in my name.

Now the after discovering this i received a phone call from the woolich accusing me of mortgage fraud saying I had already had a mortgage for 25 years ( in only 27 ) turns out they had also managed to put my mortgage application into my dads name which lead to further complications

Numerous visits to the branch and numerous times I was told it is now fixed but it never was, the mortgage was finally sorted and they found my bank account but they have still got my and my fathers details all messed up with no resolution in site.

I have now recoeved a letter as has my father (although still the accounts don't match the names ) saying I can contact the ombudsman.

Was just wondering if anyone with any experience of this would recommend speaking to the ombudsman and if this would speed up and resolution and compensation offer

Not sure if this should have been in here or mortgaes as its technicaly covered by both

Best answers:

  • What have they offered?
I would expect you to get at least Ј1000 for a breach such as this and your father should complain too and get some compensation.
  • No offer as of yet as the problem is still outstanding they advised me to check my credit scoring as well incase the mortgage fraud thing had affected this
  • Get the Ј2 copy of your Experian report to see what is on there.
  • Get your camera phone / scanner powered up and put your complaint in to the FOS (https://help.financial-ombudsman.org.uk) as you have the final word letter.
Currently, it can take upto 4 weeks for the FOS to register the complaint and then 2 weeks to get the case file from the bank.
Barclays may put a settlement offer in the case file sent to the FOS but this will be ignored and not reviewed until allocated to an adjudicator.
You could contact the FOS once this limit has passed but pestering FOS staff usually goes against you. I'd contact fosqueries@barclays-frc.com once converted with the FOS and ask them what they have coughed.
  • Thanks for he reply I have had my letter from barclays confirming I can contact the ombudsman and spoke to them, they are now sending out a form for me to send back with information about the issue on
  • Ok so I checked my credit score and fair to say there is a major mess up I have a lot of my fathers credit agreements are on my credit score as wel as there mortgage and bank details are all showing on my score,my worry is of this takes 3+ month to fix will it affect my mortgage? I have exchanged contracts and have my mortgage in place but have been told they may do another credit check before the house is built.
  • If the house is not yet built your credit files should be repaired by the time you complete.
  • Yeah hopefully I think completion date should be around about May time
