Bankrupt today

A question about : Bankrupt today

Just thought I would let you know about my day. Got to court at 9am. Saw clerk at 9.30, very informal, just like being in the queue at the post office. Handed my papers over, told to go upstairs. Waited about 20 mins. Went into room, saw lovely judge, declared bankrupt at 10.21am.
Went to OR office, will be in touch with me within five days.
All in all, not what I thought it would be.
Everyone was very nice.

• Hi justaboutto, it must be a relief for it to be all over and done with. Glad it all went ok for you.
• How do you go on now then just cash for everything ? What of those who normally have their wages paid straight into a bank account who are bankrupt, what do they do ?
• Anyone going bankrupt now opens a basic bank account and pays cash most of the time. Direct debits are still usable but the utility companies will switch your meter to prepay, or you switch the account into partners name.

• Xbigman, you say the utilities companies will switch to prepay. I am currently on DD. Will it cost to switch the meter over? Will the whole bill outstanding at the moment be payable before that happens?
