bank account to use for switching

A question about : bank account to use for switching

Just wondering if you could open a 'basic' bank account to use to switch with to be able to qualify for switching bonus.
If so which ones are best and would I need to have it open for a minimum time before being able to switch?

• Thanks for both your replies - needs an account so hubby can do Co-op then m&s to open new 6% saver
• Thanks will try nat west then swop to M&S
  then see if I can do him another for Co-op
