A question about : Bach Flower Remedies

We have a 12 year old extremely clingy cat - that wakes us up EVERY morning at about 5am to be let outside.
He had his THYROID gland removed last year - but this made no difference.
He also fights with his brother - which, previously - he didn't
We have tried FELIWAY with no sucess.
We are considerng trying Bach Flower Remedies and wonder if anyone has had any sucess with this ?

Best answers:

  • i havent tried Bach but know people who have. if Feliway doesnt work then it is worth a try https://bachflowerpets.com/
My cat wakes up 5am - 6am too but we are consistently ignoring her and it appears to be working. i assume your cat has a litter tray indoors and isn't crying to be let out to do his business?
have you tried a bit of catnip to calm him down when he fights?
  • I think it's quite normal for cats to wake up early in the morning, ours are often up at 5am and attention seeking. Could you fit a catflap or set up an automatic feeder to keep them occupied? Also assuming you have a littertray indoors.
  • I think it's one of those things - it may help and won't really hurt to try (just check the ingredients - e.g. I know Rescue Remedies do pastilles which must be avoided because of the sweetener in them), but I wouldn't rely on it as a magic fix.
Has he been checked out thoroughly medically to make sure there's no other issues - e.g. painful joints making it difficult for him to settle for long? Feline dementia?
  • I don't think there's a definitive test for dementia, just a case of ruling everything else out and seeing if the symptoms match. I know dogs can have medication like Vivitonin to increase blood flow to the brain - not sure if that's also suitable for cats (or a similar alternative)
Is he on pain relief for his joints? Could be worth starting him on some, or experimenting with his dose if he already is, to see if that helps the behaviour.
