  • I might be an August 2012 bride, but not sure yet - it's looking like being either 18th August or 1st September! I'm ridiculously excited that we've narrowed it down that much, think what I'll be like when it's confirmed!
    What's your date Tiara?
  • I shall hopefully be an August bride too! we're hoping for 9th August, if all goes to plan, and we can save up enough money
  • Hello ladies
White_Sapphire- good luck with picking the date. I guess we were lucky in a strange way, as our venue only had one date left in 2012, so it was grab that or wait til 2013! Ours is August 25th! It is a very exciting feeling indeed to have finally set a date!
Hi Munch_jg Good luck with the saving. I see you're based in Oxfordshire, whereabouts are you thinking of getting married? I'm an Oxford gal too
  • Bicester as that's where i live, we looked into surrounding areas but with the amount of family i have (and they all live here!) we figured it was just easier, i'm looking at church wedding and hiring a social club after, not my ideal wedding, i always wanted a fancy country house and sit down meal but having all my family there is much more important to me
  • Ooh Tiara I'm 25th as well, wanted to go for the bank holiday weekend.
  • Eeeeeee hello Jellybean, my date twin!! How exciting is that?! We didn't actually realise it was a Bank Holiday weekend til after we'd booked it
It was the next available date that our venue had, and also was the only date they had in 2012 so we just grabbed it! I'm hoping being on a bank holiday won't make things like the photographer dearer
Are you going to scare me now by saying you've got a million and one things sorted?! I have only booked the church and the venue, and possibly the entertainment! Soooo much left to do!

  • I haven't got much done to be honest. I was full steam ahead when he proposed then I couldn't be bothered really lol. Now that it's next year I'll start planning again. I haven't found that anything is more expensive so far but only booked the photographer and band as well as the venue. Don't know what to do next, maybe a budget and a mood board and all that kind of stuff. I know I definately want a relaxed, beachy, turquoise and white theme, other than that........
oh and I've started with the diet-18 months seems a good amount of time to slim best get exercising
  • We're August 25th next year too! Booked reception venue but nothing else.
  • Hi Brides to be!!! So glad I found this thread! I got engaged the day before Christmas Eve 2010 and we have decided on an August 2012 wedding. We definitely need that long to save, I had no idea how much weddings cost! We're looking at venues now and I have my heart set on The Clumber Park Hotel in Notts, should cost around Ј10,000ish as I have a big family so already we have about 120 people for the day bit itself. Any advice, hints and tips would be gratefully appreciated.
I've just joined MSE today and need all the help I can get to raise the Ј10,000 needed - I could do with winning the lottery really!!!

  • Oooh turquoise and white sounds stunning Ach need to get the diet underway myself, want to tone up so might as well start early!

  • Hi
Can I join you all please?
We have the 25th August 2012 on hold with a venue and I am hoping to book it on Sunday (just need to get the OH totally committed). That sounds bad, he does know the date is held and at what venue (infact he secured it as it was the Bank Holiday weekend). I just need to make sure he is totally happy with it.
Anyway, after all that waffle - I am going to be yet another 25th August 2012 bride!! (well keep your fingers crossed for me anyway)!!
  • Hi Hadley1 *waves*
Welcome on board, the more the merrier
Will keep my fingers crossed that Sunday goes well for you, and that you both decide on a venue you are really happy with
We're going to see a photographer this weekend, I'm ever so excited, it's finally all starting to feel a bit real now

  • We did it - well OH is pretty much doing it as I type (should be anyway).
We have booked the venue and date - yet another 25th August 2012.
So excited - its like its really happening now. Might be panicking tomorrow when I realise that there is loads to do. he he.
  • Yet another 25th August 2012! Also getting married in Oxfordshire, there seems to be quite a few of us on here!
I'm afraid I'm one of those super organised types and already have church, venue, rings, dress, caterers, florist and cake already booked! Still need to sort out a photographer and entertainment though.
  • Hi Everyone!
We've reserved our venue for the 26th August 2012, will pay the deposit and make it 'official' on sunday!! Am sooo excited dont know how i'll cope with waiting 'til the big day just wish the registrar could be booked sooner than the 12 months.
Next on my to do list is find a photographer and maybe look at cakes (we want a cupcake tower but mum is horrified and is insisting we need a cake to cut - not the giant cupcake that we have suggested!)
  • Yay that is fab news Hadley, congrats on setting the date Has it started to sink in yet? Setting the date made it feel much more real for me- so so exciting!!

  • Wow you must have the patience of a saint to have been waiting since 2007 I've only been engaged 6 months and I already can't wait to get married!
Ah I am just a few miles away from Abingdon, small world eh! Getting married in our local little village church, then having the reception in Oxford city centre
I booked my nail treatments today for me and my bridesmaid, and now looking at flowers and photographers. Haven't decided what colours of types of flowers I want yet, so need to work that out soonish. The colours will also influence invites etc, so need to work them out before I can do much more. I love dark blue for the bridesmaid dress and the mens ties etc, but I also love dark red roses so not sure which colour to go for!

  • I think my OH would disagree with you on how patient I am!
Your plans sound lovely! We are going for a small village church too, then reception round the corner in the village hall - it'll be a very DIY wedding so I have tons to make and do, which I don't mind but is a bit daunting!
Yep, definitely decide on a colour scheme - it makes life much easier! We're having navy blue too, but with blush pink (with the pink mostly through the flowers) to make it a bit more summery! No reason why you can't have blue and red, I think that would look lovely together! You could even have a Great Britain/retro theme, if you know what I mean?
BTW, if you want a rec for flowers, try Green and Gorgeous near Wallingford - we were very impressed with them and have booked them this week!
