A question about : And so it begins

Today we sent off the paperwork requested by our debt advisors! its scary to think that today is the start of us hopfully getting debt free! we have been so busy past few days getting new bank accounts sorted direct debts cancelled or changed, income informed of change!
jsut got 2 more accounts to clear and close and we are all moved and ready!
I jsut hope when it gets done that the creditors meeting goes well, just not sure how long it will be till that happens! will we be waiting for weeks or even months till its all going and we begin to pay?

  • Hi, our IVA was accepted last week so i know just how you feel.
the bank account is important,it is a busy& stressful time. creditors put so much pressure on for payments but stand firm whatever they threaten to do,keep in touch with the firm helping you.try to save what you can for a emergency fund now.
our creditors meeting was about 2 weeks after they had all the paperwork back. it felt an age, suddenly it was upon us! we did a one off IVA with help from my parents(got to re pay them though)but i think most people start paying in the next month. ask your firm though so your clear.
others will be along to help, good luck, remember you're not alone.
  • Thanks! i hope it does all get sorted soon as it is starting to have an effect on my studies for university! the joys of being a mature students, kids house and money!
  • You'll soon have a date then you can back to concentrating on uni and the family!
    good luck
  • Hi Isis Black. It sounds like you are pretty much at the same stage as I am. It is such an emotional rollercoaster. I am a complete Newbie. I cannot offer you any advice but simply say that I know exactly how you feel and with everything crossed, the light at the end of the tunnel will all of a sudden become so much brighter!! Keep posting. Let us know how you are getting on and best of luck!!!
  • We're new it all too and know where you're at. It's a serious hassle putting everything in place but a salutory lesson. Makes you feel more disciplined and in control don't you think?
Our IP got it all booked and sorted within 5 weeks or so and that included Christmas! Long haul ahead but it'll all be worth it.
    Best of luck
  • The worst part, I found, was seeing the total owed written down in "black and white" ....... and well over my "guesstimates" !!
  • my husband still cant quite get his round all of this but as he says once its up and running and get the letters all sorted and creditors informed and we make payment then all will be settled in his mind!
we ahd our first letter this morning from a creditior saying we had cancelled our direct debit and if its not restarted then will get a charge for it direct to our account, well they can do that as the account is closed lol. jsut gonna keep it and send it onto our debt management company.
i just need life to get back to a calmness so i can concentrate on uni work, at this rate i will have to resit year one! (not that i mind that if i have to!)
  • this part when you start getting letters&calls is stressful, just hold on together through it,post when you need to. we got some awful letters saying they were from solicitors acting for Lloyds, threatening court action etc, scared me to death. it's all just pressure for Ј.
can't stress it loud enough, ignore it and save like crazy, every penny so you have some emergency funds.
    it will get better,been there,got the t - shirt x
  • yeah we have already been getting a fw letters and phone calls but we not stressing over them as we have people working for us to help us get things sorted!
the annoying thing is that it is having an effect on my university work so i can just see i will not pass my exams i jsut hope i am given the opportunity to resit the year if i am allowed!
we have no cancelled all direct debits relating to the debts and saving it though its our anniversary soon so will have one last treat and are giving my eldest 2 birthday days out (2 birthdays in one month!)
i will jsut be so glad once its all sorted and underway, though the mother in law ( who is jsut coming to the end of hers) has told us that it will take about 3 months till the payment agreement is agreed and sorted, jsut hope that they accept our offer! and that they don`t expect me to cut down on my university costs or i will not be able to carry on, that is nmy big worry and stress too !
  • Hi Isis.
It is all such a worry. The phone calls and letters are now coming in thick and fast for us too. I had 3 phonecalls today asking to speak to my OH. I asked who was calling and they just hung up on me!!!! How rude!!!
We have received our proposals just today and are going to read them over and over until we are sure we know where we stand. Creditors accepting our offer is also our main worry right now but what will be will be I guess. I just have to keep faith in our IP and remain reassured that they would not go through the hassle if they didn't think it was viable. I am a complete newbie but I would be surprised if they expected you to cut down on uni costs. Focus on your studies, think of your future. It will all come together eventually.
Keep your chin up and focus on those exams. You will be just fine!! No resits for you!!
  • It is a horribly stressful and emotional time but I can't even tell you the sense of relief and elation you will feel when it is agreed. I don;t know who you chose to go with but CCCS have a 95% success rate so just bear in mind that the creditors would rather get an agreement for you to pay something, rather than nothing - which is what they would prob get if they refused it. CCCS sounded so surprised when I was thanking them over and over once it was agreed - like why had I ever even questioned it in the first place??!!!! Was funny looking back on it. If you go with a reputable company they don't even take your case unless they are sure of a positive outcome.
  • we are with Grant Thornton who was provided to us through the CAB they have been fab up to now! fingers crossed they stay that way lol
they called the other day to let me know they have received all the stuff we sent and have been going through it, jsut missing letters for my parents and husbands mum about us giving them money for child care, so as soon as they have received them then all is underway!
they did only question my petrol costs are a little high as they have a certain amount they will allow, but i am on 24 miles a day 5 days a week!! so not gonna be cheap or low!
everyday had a call from lloyds asking to talk to hubby, yesterday i called him from upstairs and as soon as he got to the phone they had hung up!! they of course rang again today and hubby was finally able to give GT number and reference code! at least his credit card lot will leave us alone! jsut my credit card, our loan and the other credit card to call now lol
oh i will be glad when its sorted!
  • Hi isis,i've seen lot's of positive pots for Grant Thornton so i'm sure you'll be fine. amazing feeling to know things are moving forward as well as rather daunting!
    you'll get there!
  • Well petrol costs are only ever gonna get higher so stand firm on that one!
  • will try with the petrol thats for sure lol
yeah found GT really great up to now! even got a courtously email today from somenoe saying if we have any worries or feel we are not getting the custommer service we think we should be getting then we jsut email him direct!
well sent the letters from our parents off yesterday so they should have got them today, so unless there is anything else wrong then they should be getting the draft letter sorted.
Lloyds TSB are our biggest creditors so hoping they will be nice and accept with no major problems
but yeah it is nicew to get things underway
  • well we are jsut awaiting the draft letter as they should now have all the info they require! jsut wondering how long the draft will take to get to us??!
well not paying the bills has been fab lol we have managed to get out for our eldests birthday took them to birmingham
the next birthday is next week and we have 2 kitten on the way as we promised all our kids that they could have a pet when they turn 10 (youngest is getting hers a little early on the promise she doesnt aske for one when she turns 10 lol)
but we have enough money to get all cats vaccinated, neutered and spayed and still leaves us some spare which is great, jsut need to get the IVA payments underway so we can fully organise our outgoings!
Though i get a very sneeky feeling we may have to request a change of payment amount in a few months depending on if i pass my exam resits! if i dont i have to sit the year out (so no student finance) and resit exams once more next year then if i pass i start year 2 october next year! but we shall see how things go! best not put myself down yet as i may jsut get through it ok i hope :-s
