A question about : Agency can't put you forward as you aren't working?

Has anyone else had this as a reason why an agency can't or wont send your CV over to an employer for a job?

Best answers:

  • No. They are fobbing you off...
  • Unless they need an immediate start and you have a notice period.....
  • It depends on the firm they are recruiting for. I have known one firm who didn't want anyone who was currently unemployed to be put forward. If they tell the agency that's what their requirement is then the agency have to follow it.
So it could be either a lie or the truth.
There is currently no protection for that kind of "discrimination" and I can't see there ever will be.
  • The most obvious reason is the candidate's skill set does not match up to the employer's requirements..! If I had an agent who sent me unsuitable CVs they would not be an agent for much longer.
  • Is this a new agency or one you have been working with before, have the put you forward for other jobs?.
  • Maybe a new agency is called for then
  • You seem to have forgotten that agencies work for employer, not you. If that is what the employers want, that is what the agency will send them. Agencies aren't there to 'help' anyone other than the employer, who pays them. Same as any other company, but people seem to forget who the actual customer of the agency is.
  • Am I the only person here who is outraged that it is legal ( if indeed it is) to discriminate against someone because they are unemployed, all other things being equal.
This is pretty common in the US as well from what I can gather.
