Affordable Hotels during Olympics

A question about : Affordable Hotels during Olympics

Hi,

I have managed to buy tickets for the athletics in the presale last week, however I am now struggling to find affordable accommodation(and transport) for our trip. Even various holiday inn/premier inn hotels are Ј200-Ј300 per night.

Does anyone have any hints and tips or know of affordable accommodation available during the games?

• I've got three separate hotel bookings for London during the Olympics:
  1st Cashed in my hotel reward points and got a 'free' Ј200 room at Holiday Inn, very surprised that the dates weren't blacked out
  2nd Several times a week I was using trivago and checking out prices for the particular night I wanted and one day I got a Holiday Inn Express for Ј69.50, assume it was a block booking that cancelled
  3rd Saw on MSE that travelodge were having a sale of London rooms during the Olympics and picked up one for Ј65
  There are some cheap rooms out there.
• I also picked up tickets this week and have booked two nights in the Greenwich Travelodge at Ј95 per night, which I thought was reasonable.
• I'm stopping outside London on one of the high speed rail links. Pries are much more reasonable there and you can book reduced price games train tickets to travel in on the day
• Sorry to bump but can anyone help as I ought to book soon. TIA.
• Thanks everyone for all your help, I've actually booked rooms in a halls of residence for Ј30 pppn and is located in Hackney not too far from the Olympic park. It might not sound like the most desirable place to stay but rooms have en suite facilities and look very clean an tidy. Also got a return train journey from Wigan for Ј42 using the train line. A huge relief to be booked in and now just can't wait to get to the games!!
