A question about : 0% Santander Credit Card

I have Ј800 left to pay on this card and the 0% runs out In March. I also have a Tesco Card with 0% on purchases for 19 months owing Ј1000 I would like to put them together on one card. Does anyone know a good deal as I don't think Tesco will allow me to transfer the Ј800 onto theirs. It would make things simpler to pay the one amount.

Best answers:

  • couple things to consider
    1) what is your credit limit on the tesco card
    2) when was the tesco credit card taken out
    3) check the fees on balance transfers in your terms that came with the card (tesco)
    4) you may be able to check if you can get a new santander 123 credit card and transfer the tesco balance over to there and then transfer the current santander one to tesco and back again to santander (watch out for any fees incurred by the tesco card). By doing this you would be able to then have 23 months at 0%, all will be on one card, and santander wont charge you a fee for moving the balance from tesco over to them, though they do charge Ј2 per a month credit card fee but easily worth while if you use the card for other things like travel/supermarkets etc)
  • Put as much of your normal spending as possible on the Tesco card up to its limit and use that money to pay off the other one faster. The effect is a slow balance transfer to the Tesco card with no fees. I'm assuming that you're still in the time when the Tesco card is at 0% for new purchases.
If the Tesco deal is near its end as well you can apply for a 0% balance transfer credit card and look to transfer both balances to that card.
  • Thank you for your replies. My Tesco card is quite new so has a good time to run. I was going to apply for the 123 Card but then found out I could not transfer from Santander to it. I will check the Tesco card but I thought it was for purchases only. Thank you for your advice.
  • The Tesco card is for purchases only but you can try to increase the proportion of your normal spending that goes on that card to free up money to pay the other card.
