A question about : Claims For "Compensation"...

I don't want to appear to be pedantic, but it's really important that we stop referring to the payment due as compensation, especially when dealing with the air carrier. Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 specifically states that the carrier is not liable for compensation claims, as the situation was not their fault. Use of the term compensation is therefore causing confusion and, more importantly, giving the carriers an excuse not to pay up!

A question about : New Aircraft surcharges

Today my travel company contacted me to say that the Ј5,000+ due on a once in lifetime holiday to Borneo for Xmas had to be paid today and not in October as Malaysian Airways intended surcharging our Economy flight Ј510 each from tomorrow to cover extra costs due to ash, fuel costs etc. I had to pay today or it would have been over a Ј1000 more for nothing. Has anybody else had this happen? How can 1 jumbo jet need Ј510 extra per person [Economy] and presumably more for upgrades? x 300+ persons

A question about : Sunmaster

My holiday to Turkey was cancelled due to volcanic ash on 18 April 2010. After four months of numerous e mails, letters and phone calls to Sunmaster I still had received no refund. Then I used Cityboys legal proforma letter and within two weeks I received my money back! Thank you Cityboy.

A question about : Is there still volcanic ash? How do the insurers decide?

Anyone know how and when the travel insurers decide that the latest volcanic ash has ended?

I'd like to renew my annual travel insurance, but don't want to do so whilst the latest eruption and volcanic ash is still considered to be ongoing.

A question about : ryanair's big fat compensation payout

stuck abroad for 9 extra days with my daughter. Ryanair sent me a big fat cheque last week for Ј159....no explanation or breakdown, no accommodation paid as the receipts were not VAT registered. I have no intentions of cashing in the cheque until someone can give me guidance on what do do next. Ryanair have all my original receipts so cannot claim from my own insurers1 Can anyone out there help me?
