A question about : Is there still volcanic ash? How do the insurers decide?

Anyone know how and when the travel insurers decide that the latest volcanic ash has ended?

I'd like to renew my annual travel insurance, but don't want to do so whilst the latest eruption and volcanic ash is still considered to be ongoing.

• It seems the authorities are being a tad more sensible this time. They have realised a little volcanic ash will not make planes fall out of the sky. I am all for safety but IMHO, hitting a flock of birds on take off presents a far bigger threat.
  I would suggest you ask your insurance provider to confirm what cover is provided for travel disruption due to volcanic ash.
