Miss sold a savings plan...

A question about : Miss sold a savings plan...

Hi I would like some advice if poss...

Back in 1987 I was a raw recruit in the RAF - we were literally marched into a room and told we needed to 'save young man' - 'handily' there was a rep from Abbey Life there who promptly signed me up for a 35 year savings plan called Wealthmaster.

Of course 8 yrs later I looked at my life and the performance of this product and surrendered the policy.

Egg shares..

A question about : Egg shares..

About 4 years ago , I bought some egg shares- about Ј200 worth. They are now worth about Ј135 ( as a guess). What i want to know is should i sell up and get out. They have never reached their original cost and I am worried that i will just lose money if i hang on to them any longer.
What do the others think?
Any views much appreciated.

Best answers:

  • Personally i would keep the shares to see what happens, after all its only Ј200.

Child's saving account

A question about : Child's saving account

My father-in-law wishes to give around Ј6000 to my daughter.
We have just opened an Alliance & Leicester first saver account, following advice from Martin title=Smile, but we were wondering if there are limits as to how much can be paid into the account before the powers that be take an interest (sic).
Will this amount be taxable or anything ? :-/

CHAPS

A question about : CHAPS

When having to transfer big amounts CHAPS payments spring to mind. Before splashing out £30 or more though, calculate whether it gains anything. I bet you will be surprised just how big the amount needs to be for a CHAPS payement to pay off!

BACS Transfers and cheque payments cost several days of lost interest. CHAPS payments are immediate but might still lose a day.

Setting up a 'new' direct debit with ING

A question about : Setting up a 'new' direct debit with ING

As you will know, this is done by a cheque (for a nominal amount) posted to ING, and they then use the printed details to set up a direct debit from that account.

However this won't happen unless you notify them you are sending your cheque beforehand! I did this with a second bank account and nothing had ocurred.
