A question about : What would you do in this situation (nursery and maternity leave)

Hi everyone,

I am facing a tough choice and am interested in others' opinion.

I have a boy (1-year-old) and am expecing my No. 2 this Feb. My husband wishes to keep DS in the nursery during my maternity leave as it not only gives him good stimuli and social interaction and but also allows me to concentrate on looking after the new baby. He also wants me to stay on the maternity leave as long as possible (52 weeks) for the benefit of me and the new baby.

Hey all!

I'm getting myself in a right old tizz trying to sort car seat! I'm nearly 34 weeks and this is the last big item on my list to get.

I am so torn between just getting a cheaper Ј60 Kiddicare car seat or getting the Maxi Cosi Pebble FamilyFix base for ease of use (and because we have the Oyster pram so it will clip on top!)

I spotted a great deal of both for Ј240 from Kiddsave a few weeks back but I just missed it :-( I'm checking the usual haunts everyday but price seems to be static at Ј150 for each.

I think it is unfair not to allow us to take our kids away for just 1 week during the shcool year. A lot of people can't afford holidays as they are so much dearer during the shcool holidays. A question about : Can you sue/complain about a party venue?

I hope it is okay to put this posting here...
I decided (for my sins!) to throw an 18th birthday party for my daughter. We found what we thought was a fantastic venue and I paid to hire it, paid for the DJ and a surcharge of Ј50 to bring our own food. If they had decorated it and did the food, the price would have been astronomical. I have also got lots of decorations and a cake, etc. It has all cost approaching Ј1000.

Honestly, how much debt did you build up on maternity leave, especially if you were the main earner?

Despite superb MSE budgeting and saving, a baby arriving nine weeks early means the credit card is going to be loaded up more than I would like...

A question about : Free 15 hours of childcare for 3 year olds

we just moved into a new area, my daughter turns 3 this December so she is entitled to free childcare from January. I have contacted some nurseries and most are privetely owned, they tell me that unless the child goes to their private school later on they cant accept the child, others say they don't take any more new children, what do i do? what rights I have? I got the impression they just dont want to take on a child who will not stay any additional hours
