Opting out of child benefit

A question about : Opting out of child benefit

I was just looking at child benefit info on gov.uk and apparently if you are a high earner you end up paying most of the child benefit back as tax. However you can opt out of receiving child benefit - is there any benefit to doing it either way, ie receiving the benefit and then paying it back as tax, or just opting out of it altogether..??

Just found out I'm pregant and worried about money

A question about : Just found out I'm pregant and worried about money

Hi everyone,

I've just found out that I am pregnant and am now seriously freaking out about money.
I earn Ј1140 per month as does my b/f. We own our won house and have a car and our outgoings are about Ј1600 per month. Generally speaking we each put Ј850 into our joint account to cover this and whats left is our own.
This means that we could not survive on just 1 salary.

so do you think that CITV or CBBC are 'responsible' channels which send out programmes you can let your kids watch unmonitored?

What do you ACTUALLY need if you're having a baby?

A question about : What do you ACTUALLY need if you're having a baby?

I hope this is the right place to post but I am finding the sheer amount of products on the market for a new baby overwhelming and am wondering what things I will need immediately when I bring baby home.

Somethings I realise are essential like a car seat however, a cot isn't essential in the first few months.

From your experience, what is completely necessary and what can wait and what is completely useless?

At what age can children use mugs?

A question about : At what age can children use mugs?

Really random question, but not having any kids I'm completely clueless. At what age can children start using mugs?

Basically thinking of buying some nice Christmas mugs with some snowman soup cones for my friend's kids. Boys are aged 3 and 6. Can I get china or would plastic be better?

Thanks so much for your knowledge!

Narrow fitting shoes for child

A question about : Narrow fitting shoes for child

No 1 daughter has narrow feet and we're struggling to get shoes to fit her. She's currently a 5 E (child not adult 5), but the Clarks Es seem to be a bit wide.

Are there any other brands that people have had success with getting a narrow fitting? Our local StartRite shoes shop only goes down to an F.

Thanks
