A question about : Claiming back VAT on mess dress

Hi

DH's clerk has indicated he should claim back the VATon his mess dress but reading the HMRC guidance it doesn't suggest he can.

Does anyone know for definite? Or has done it?

I certainly don't expect to be able to but just really making sure.

Mine gets back a few weeks after. Our first xmas apart in 21 years marriage.

Just having a quiet xmas at home and also working part of it. Will re-celebrate when he gets back.

What are you doing to get through it?

eta: On the plus side, I can wait for the January sales to buy his main xmas present.

A question about : Internet and phone contracts in BFG

Hi,

Does anyone know how much monthly internet and phone contracts are in Germany? I've heard that they are both significantly more than UK prices. Would be good to get an idea to help me the family budget. I've got 12 months left on my Vodafone contract which I have to honour; no discount from Vodafone!

Random question but do you have to be able to speak & understand English to join the British Army?

There is a genuine reason for my question, I just can't find anything online that states whether this is an actual requirement or not?

A question about : PVR in ..... What now

Thought i'd ask here as you are all so helpfull

Son has put his PVR in, been in forces for 6 years.....What is next. Is there any courses etc he can do before he comes out or any help in anything.

As he is based far from home , this makes it difficult to attend interviews, I believe there is no financial help to attend interviews while his PVR is in so will no doubt be jobless after he comes out

A question about : Immediate(?) Pension, why it's increasing

I'm trying to understand why an armed forces pension is increasing, apparently with inflation, when the AFPS75 scheme booklet appears to suggest that it is an Immediate Pension and that these are not inflation linked.

A question about : UPDATE: Service Pupil Premium Includes Parents that have Divorced Since 2011

Since April 2013, provision has been made for pupils that were eligible for the Service Pupil Premium since 2011, to continue to be eligible if their parents are no longer member of the Armed Forces, have died in Service or have divorced.

For families that have divorced, in practise this means that the divorce will have to have taken place since the introduction of the Premium in 2011 and the child must have been eligible for Premium in 2011.
