A question about : PVR in ..... What now

Hi

Thought i'd ask here as you are all so helpfull

Son has put his PVR in, been in forces for 6 years.....What is next. Is there any courses etc he can do before he comes out or any help in anything.

As he is based far from home , this makes it difficult to attend interviews, I believe there is no financial help to attend interviews while his PVR is in so will no doubt be jobless after he comes out

sorry totally clueless

  • It's all here:

With 6 years service then the full resettlement package is available, but if he is leaving on PVR then there will be little or no time to do courses and get his resettlement entitlement.
Are you sure he is PVR'ing? (Premature Voluntary Release) or has he just submitted his notice to leave?
  • Both Standard Learning Credits & Enhanced Learning Credits are available dependant on the length of service served.
Up to date, accurate advice is available from the Learning Centre/Education Centre on the parent unit, which your son has access too.

  • If he has been serving over 5 years he is entitled to the full resettlement package even if he has PVRd.
He will get Ј534 towards a resettlement course, plus subsistence such as hotel, food etc and 35 days resettlement leave.
He will be able to claim 7 return travel warrants for interviews, courses etc.
As advised, he needs to get advice ASAP from the Education Centre, time goes by quickly!
  • To be entitled to the full resettlement package you have to have served 6 years at the 6 year point you will get Ј534, 4 return warrants and 20 days GRT. To get ELC you have to have registered for the scheme and served a minimum of 4 years, SLC is given to everyone annually use it or lose it. There is also a 3 day workshop and a housing and financial brief which do not come off the GRT entitlement. you need to visit your RRA or IERO to register for resettlement.
