Young Tom cat and very whiffy litter tray.

A question about : Young Tom cat and very whiffy litter tray.

I have a young male cat (six months old) and in the last two weeks his litter tray (that I scoop daily and totally change every three to four days) absolutely honks. It is his urine and it now has that awful tom cat pee smell... I am assuming he is approaching sexual maturity.

He isn't scenting anywhere else in the house, but the litter tray is making the whole room smell horrendous. I have taken to changing the whole lot once a day, which has helped somewhat but it still stinks.

Dog very anxious

A question about : Dog very anxious

I rescued a second ex racing greyhound in September to keep number 1 company.
In December she slipped her collar and was immediately hit by a car. She had an open leg fracture and had a massive arterial bleed. It didn't look like she'd survive but 7 wks on and Ј8.5K of vets fees later she is starting to go out for walks again title=Jumping

Pet sitters

A question about : Pet sitters

I have 2 dogs and a cat and a need to travel abroad for 3 days to a week several times a year. Has anyone used a home sitting type service where the pet sitter stays in the pets' home? I know there are companies like 'Homesitters' but they seem very expensive - I was thinking more of a mature student or such like who might like to supplement their income a bit. What do people think?

What dog breed is best with kids??

A question about : What dog breed is best with kids??

This often throws up good debate, so thought I ask the question here.

Personally we will be looking to have our own family pet within the next 12 -16 months and will be doing extensive research at what breed would suit us best. With 3 children I would love to hear feedback reagrding any breed you have experience in youre family.

At this very early stage, we are considering 3 breeds, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Greyhound or King Charles Spaniel, but are just at the beginning of our research.

Might have to have cat put down

A question about : Might have to have cat put down

My nearly 13 year old Salem has FIV and has steadily been getting worse and worse. He is back and forth to the vet for antibiotic injections - the last one about a month ago. He is not eating properly again now and is regurgitating any wet food I give him. He is also being sick on the dry food.

He has lost about 30% of his bodyweight in the last 12 months and spends most of his time just sitting around.

Dehydrating food for treats

A question about : Dehydrating food for treats

Hi

Before I go trawling the rest of the internet do any of you who raw feed your dogs/cats dehydrate treats for them without an actual dehydrator?

If so do you have any tips of what to do and anything your animals particularly like? I'm currently feeding her dehydrated (shop bought) sweet potato with chicken wrapped round it which she loves. But if you've got something that she'd love even more I'd love to hear about it.

thanks title=Have

Metacam for Dogs

A question about : Metacam for Dogs

How do you go about buying this off the internet?

I've looked it up and there are prices, but there a big sign saying Prescription only. So why are there prices?

Can you ask for a prescription from the vet and then buy off the internet? Will this annoy my vet? Does she have to give me a prescription?
