A question about : Car hire

I've hired maybe 30 cars this year. Even by my own standards that's quite a lot.

Having used almost all of the big players and some of the smaller ones I've learnt a lot. Hiring a car has its risks and I've encountered most of them this year. Here then is my experience and hopefully some tips so that your next hire is smooth and painless.

A question about : Tablet (computer) allowed in Ryanair hold luggage?

I'm due to fly Ryanair Birmingham to Dublin tomorrow lunchtime and have been asked to purchase a Hudl 2 tablet for a family member to bring with me (unavailable in Ireland apparently).

Bought it but then started wondering about luggage restrictions as my hand baggage is going to be pretty tight anyway (before I start filling my pockets admittedly).

A question about : easyjet flights- cancelling after 24 hours

I booked some return flights for me and my now ex girlfriend from bristol to glasgow for march.

I am fully aware that easyjet are a non refundable airline.

However if I ring them to cancel the flights are they going to charge extra to my credit card?

Also, is it possible to reclaim the airport taxes or will there be a charge?

the taxes make up Ј52 of the Ј130 flight cost it would be a decent bit back.

any experiences on this?

A question about : Booking on a US car hire site + using UK excess insurance?

I got some flights this weekend for San Fran over the Easter holidays.
I've been in the area at the same time before & the car hire has never come to much over Ј200 - this time it is Ј360+!

If I use the US Alamo site, I can get the same rental for Ј234.
I am aware that many of the insurances that are always included in the UK price are not included in US prices.

A question about : Check your car hire as it may now be cheaper

I have a car booked for half term in France which I did about 4 months ago, and it was originally Ј166- for the 10 days. I just checked to see how much it would be if I booked it now and I can get it for Ј128 for the same level, dates, times, etc. It may be because they now have lots more cars than they thought they would have, or perhaps it's because the euro has dropped in value so much. Either way, it's worth checking.

A question about : Firefly

I rented a car from the Faro airport branch of Firefly (who seem to be affiliated with Hertz) while on holiday in Portugal in May 2014. The car was returned at the agreed time in an undamaged state and I paid the previously agreed balance. I explicitly asked the assistant if the owed amount was fully settled (because I'm always confused and surprised by car rental hidden charges) and he assured me it was.

Just a quick question, been through T&C's on EJ site, but couldn't find anything.

Booked return flights 2 weeks ago for Myself, OH and his mum.

They have had a major falling out ( again) and she is now not coming with us. I don't see the point in cancelling her seat, in case it all blows over, so want to keep the booking as it is.
