Freelance/Sole Trader Travel Expense Question

A question about : Freelance/Sole Trader Travel Expense Question

Hi,

First post here, not sure if I am posting in the right place, sorry mods

I have a question about travel expenses and if I can claim travel because of the nature of what I do.

I know that HMRC says i can NOT claim for travel between home and work. It then gets quite technical in what is regarded as a fixed place of work, etc.

Living in the UK but paid from abroad...?

A question about : Living in the UK but paid from abroad...?

My son currently lives and works in Russia and the possibility has arisen of his re-locating back to the UK while continuing to work for the same Moscow firm.

He's asked me to check out the tax position in his case.

Do I take it that someone working here but whose monthly salary is paid by international bank transfer from Russia would be subject to exactly the same income tax requirements as a person working for a British employer?

National Insurance on dividend earning

A question about : National Insurance on dividend earning

From my main job I get gross Ј70000 a year. I understand I am paying 12% NI contribution for income Ј7956-Ј41865, and 2% for income Ј41865-Ј70000 per annum.

This year I have got a dividend from my limited company and this is Ј10000. My accountant is saying I should pay Ј10000 x 12%= Ј1200.

My argument is that I should pay Ј10000x 2%=Ј200 as my additional earning of Ј10000 as dividend should add to Ј70000 earning and this should be calculated at 2% rate(over Ј41865) , not 12%.

Transfer of Income Tax

A question about : Transfer of Income Tax

Hi everyone

I'm pretty new to this so excuse me if I've put this in the wrong place.

I got married last year and I've heard that, starting with TY2015-16, HMRC are allowing some of your married Income Tax allowance to be transferred to your spouse.

Currently, I don't pay any tax from my income (tax code NT) and my spouse is on the standard single person's tax code. So, I was wondering:

Have I got this right?

A question about : Have I got this right?

This is a simple question and maybe I'm being a bit thick, but it sounds very unbalanced to me:

Mr Smith lives alone, earning a salary Ј25000 per year, his personal tax allowance is 1000L, therefore his contributions are calculated on Ј15000 per year, paid through PAYE.

Miss Jones Lives alone, and earns only Ј2500 per year with a part time job, her tax code is also 1000L and therefore pays no income tax, she may be entitled to benefits due to a low income.
