A question about : CGT on inherited property?

Hi,
Sorry if this has already been asked,I couldn't see another post similar.

In January 2003 my Parents inherited my Grandmothers house as the only beneficiaries.

The house needed upgrading and they still aren't sure whet they want to sell it,or keep it and rent it out.
They have delayed making a decision as they have had quite alot of other things going on,so have just left the house empty but continued paying council tax on it.

A question about : Wanted: Capital Gain Tax Utility

My in-laws have a second property and they want to see what their captial gain liability if they sell the property.

I have seen an easy utility which lets you put in the various variables and it spits out what the CG tax would be.

Any ideas where I could find such a utility?? ??? ???

A question about : Inheritance tax question

My mother owns a property worth about Ј300,000 If the property is transferred in to my name will i still be liable for inheritance tax after seven years if she is not living there?
My other option is to sell the property and bank the money.What would be the tax situation?

A question about : Cutting Council Tax

Council tax will 'treble by 2007' >

I live in a band E property. Annual charge 2004- 2005 Ј1467.00.
Single persons discount give me -Ј366.75
Total cost is Ј 1100.25

New average tax will be Ј1,556

So any suggestions as to how I can keep my council tax as low as possible?

A question about : Accountant now levying VAT

My accountant has become VAT registered because his turnover has passed the magic threshold requiring him to do so. He charged me Ј280.00 including VAT to check my accountants and make up my tax return, but not "audit" the books as such. Is this expensive? Should I be looking round for a new one?

A question about : Will in-laws have to pay capital gains tax?

Hi,

The inlaws are going to build a house in their garden and move into it and sell their existing house (all the relevant permissions are in place). They have an existing Ј30k interest only mortgage.

The plan is for them to borrow about Ј110k (Ј30k to clear mortgage and Ј80k build costs) and pay it back when they sell their existing house. As they don't earn a lot and are in their early 60's they have been advised (by an IFA) do go for a self-cert remortgage with me as their guarantor.
