A question about : Tax Liability for a Community Group?

Hello
I am a member of a community group. We are funded through membership subscriptions and donations. We also sell tickets for an annual concert, which usually results in a surplus after expenses. We are not a charity.
Our overall income surplus is around Ј500 a year, which is used to fund future expenditure of the group.

A question about : Lease Extension

I've just extended the lease on a property I rent out.

Can I use the amount paid(fee+admin) to reduce the yearly profit on the rental income?

eg.

I make Ј1,000 a year profit, but the lease and fees were Ј1,000 so I've not made anything this year so won't owe any tax?

A question about : Tax Code Query

Hi, hope this is the right place - please redirect me if I'm wrong.

I have recently been sent a new tax code by HMRC which I thought was wrong after researching online. I rang to query it and the woman on the phone told me something that appeared to contradict everything else I've read.

Some advice would be much appreciated.

I thought that on order to pay 40% tax you had to earn personal allowance PLUS 31k-ish. So you pay 40% tax on anything above approx 41k.

• Applies to married couples allowance which is available to those born before April 1935.
  It has nothing to do with the proposed transfer of a proportion of personal allowance between spouses.

A question about : Overpaid council tax

Very unlike me, but I paid one month too many in 14/15! I've not heard about it from the council assume I'll need to contact them for a refund rather than them automatically working it out?

Does anyone know how you register to take some of your spouse's personal allowance from April? Or do they do it automatically?

A question about : do i declare income for a lodger

Hi,

I'm a tennant of a housing association and I have permission to rent a room in my house to a lodger.

I am not in the rent-a-room scheme.

The lodger pays Ј100 per week including council tax and utilitiy bills, which mean I get an income of Ј5200 (inc bills)

I've just seen on a lot of websites that I can only earn Ј4,250 a year tax free from this and have to declare the extra Ј950 to HMRC in a tax return.

Is this correct?
