How will this work?

Is it only when couples die at the same time or when the surviving spouse eventually dies?

In this case is the surviving spouse not a single person and why should they be treated any differently than those who have never married or indeed those who cohabit

A question about : Adjustment to tax rate band

Hi, I've today been sent notice of my tax code for next year, and there is a new line on there that says adjustment to tax rate band with a figure of roughly Ј2,000 on - my tax free allowance has been reduced by this amount. The note alongside this says :

Upto being made redundant his tax code was 818L

At the end of September he was paid outstanding holiday pay and wages owing etc the tax code used was BR M1 (not sure what this means and why 818L wasn`t used)

He has been lucky and managed to get a job 27.5 hours with a local firm only minimum wage, but its a job they have put him on tax code 810M
