What happens if you don't pay your water bill?

A question about : What happens if you don't pay your water bill?

Nothing apparently. Or that's what this article suggests - https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5050048.stm.
The article also says that those who do pay are paying an extra Ј10 per year to subsidise those who don't pay. But maybe it's more - if 15% don't pay that means that 15% of what the rest of us pay is to cover the non-payers, so about Ј30/year on a Ј200/year bill. That's not on.

problem with my water meter reading

A question about : problem with my water meter reading

I took my water reading on 10/12/10 and it was 551 cubic metres. The United Utilities charge is a Ј1.374 each. I checked it today again and it's 1201 cubic metres. If I calculate it appears that I used 650 cubic metres for the last month. It's Ј893.1 for one month!!! I live on my own on 2 bedroom flat. What I have to do? What can it be?

Average water rates>?

A question about : Average water rates>?

I'm not used to living on my own but there will come a point when I'll probably have my own flat. I was shocked to see how much people pay for water in this country. I see for some it costs about Ј30 a month.

Say I were to live in a taxband a flat. Now I know the average rate is regionally dependent. however what's the average cost on this sort of property likely to be?

So my questions are.

Average water rates/annum nationwide on,

Band A?
Band B?

Cheapest place for water?

Ministers To 'Approve Compulsory Water Meters'

A question about : Ministers To 'Approve Compulsory Water Meters'

The Government is planning to make household water meters compulsory, according to a report.

Ministers are said to be on the verge of agreeing to a request from Thames Water to install metering across the board. If that happens, other companies are expected to follow suit.

The firm told Sky News it was not aware that an announcement is imminent, but spokesman Simon Evans said that if a report in the Sunday Times is true it would be excellent news.
